POP!

I've been spending a few days thinking about the 'personal critique' on Sabrina.

The one thing that I'm stumped on was about that 'POP' bit. I always figured if it was highly entertaining that meant it had to pop at some point. Maybe not?

So I decided to ask other writers. What does POP mean to you? What makes a story POP? How can you tell when something POPS? I'm working my way through the TBR pile hoping to find something that pops so I can see where I'm going wrong with my own stuff.

Basically, I'm waiting for that a-ha moment to hit where I can take my 'highly entertaining' story to the land of popness.

(And how often can I say pop in one blog entry???)

Sorry for not blogging so much lately. Aside from vacation, had a few things going on that kept me away from the computer. Sadly, one of my great uncles passed away yesterday.

((Lis)) Thinking of you and your family.

I'm not sure what to make of the "pop" thing!

Hmmm...POP, hey?

Something POPS for me when it has clever words, witty dialogue, no cliches or a predictable plot, good hooks.

Honestly and truly, Lis, if you're getting these kinds of comments you are close. Hang in there! Keep writing. Soon POP will be all yours.

Lis, hugs about your uncle. As for critique, I also think that if you get such comments, you must be very close. I think, for me the story pops if it grabs my attention, stands out among others, and keeps me turning pages. Imho, your Sab can do that!

Thanks Jess and Olga for the thoughts and hugs.

Me either Jess! *g* I think there's an agent chat with another agent at the same agency, so I might ask her then what they define pop as.

Thanks Meretta :o) That helps -- esp. the predictable bit. I'll have to look at it a bit more and see what jumps out at me.

Thankie Olga *hugs* Close is a good thing, its just sort of a blow b/c of who it was from. Guess I'll take some time away from Sab (least till I hear back from the other agent) and see if anything makes sense then
